Untraditional Places to Go on Vacation

By: Rylee Cassidy

Coffee

With spring break rapidly approaching for college students and summer finally peaking into

the frame, vacation season has finally arrived. Every year there is at least one person you have heard of going on vacation to Cancun, Greece, Italy, or some tropical island. To avoid being unoriginal I have compiled a list of non-traditional places to travel to this ‘holiday’ season.

Croatia

With only an 11-hour flight time (it could be longer), Croatia is a beautiful place to visit and is

seriously underrated. Similar to Greece, Croatia is also composed of many different islands, all of which house breathtaking beaches. Due to it being situated right near the Mediterranean Sea, Croatia is known for its delicious food and rich history, the capital city of Zagreb is home to much of this. Can’t get a plus-one for this trip? No worries! Croatia is generally considered a very safe place to travel with low levels of crime. Considering all of these factors it is unimaginable to believe that most people do not think of Croatia when picking a destination.

Iceland

Although not known for its warm beaches Iceland is still the perfect place to travel and see

unconventional sights. People can see the authentic Northern Lights in the Reykjavik Golden Circle in the fall, winter, and spring. If that is not for you, pack your bathing suit, as travelers are also able to view Iceland’s natural glaciers and chill out for a relaxing bath in the Blue Lagoon. Iceland is no stranger to interesting history as visitors can see Viking ruins in the countryside dating back to the year 930. Even though Iceland is not ecstasy a number one destination when it comes to nightlife or beaches, it is a top contender when seeing the natural wonders of the world.

Morocco

Have you ever seen pictures of people casually riding camels online? Well, these pictures were most likely taken in Morocco. This North African country is home to gorgeous desert

landscapes, warm beaches, and historic outside markets in Marrakesh. Due to Morocco’s

geographic elegance and hot temperatures, virtually anything you want to cross off your bucket list can be done here, whether that be hiking the Atlas Mountains, or dancing at a music festival in Essaouira.

Don’t forget your sunglasses when lying out on the peaceful beach of Mirleft!

With its wallet-friendly locations, beautiful scenery, and welcoming population it's no wonder that Morocco is slowly becoming a huge tourist spot. Everyone is aware of the beauty of countries that are popular tourist destinations, however, it is about time that other countries got some praise when it comes to vacations. So next time you are thinking on where to go during some time off, maybe consider some unique places to visit, as no two places are the same!
