In the summertime, wellness is almost always a priority. We drink green juice, attend workout classes, and get Vitamin D in the sun. But when school starts up again, we throw out our healthy diets for Red Bull and microwave meals. Getting 8 hours of sleep? Forget it. Exercising daily? No chance.
It may seem convenient to put your health on the backburner for the next eight to nine months, but remember: health is wealth. Here are three ways to stay on top of your health even in college.
Start Meal Prepping
When it comes to eating healthy, preparation is key. If you don’t think about what you’ll eat ahead of time, you’ll probably end up having a granola bar and an energy drink from the nearest vending machine as a lunch. But your focus and energy depend on real nutrients, so even if your meal prep is as small as a few fruits and veggies in your bag as a snack, something is better than nothing. It’s almost impossible to eat 100% healthy as a college student, but do your best to make sure your diet is made up of more healthy stuff than pure junk.
Create Blocks In Your Schedule
When you feel like there’s too much you have to do in one day (Write a paper! Stretch! Go to work! Finish a workout!), carving out consistent blocks of time in your schedule for each activity can be a major help. Establishing a solid routine by doing the same activity at the same time each day makes sure that 1) you don’t forget to do anything, and 2) you have a clear plan for how you’ll get to everything.
Resist The Bed Rot
When you’ve had a long week or happen to be procrastinating some homework, the urge to bed rot is real. But if you want to take a break from schoolwork while still keeping your health in mind, get out of bed and go for a walk instead. It will help clear your head, and you’ll also get some much-needed steps in.
